There is no greater feeling than finding that perfect item for your closet. Whether it’s the jeans that fit just right, the t-shirt that is perfectly slouchy and structured at the same time, or the cardigan that never stretches, you just can’t beat that satisfaction. UNLESS……. you can get it in bulk.

One of the basic principles of our Basics Checklist is only having items that actually fit in your style and wardrobe. Finding a magical item that does that AND can be duplicated is always awesome. But we have a few dos and don’ts when it comes to buying multiples. So read this before you buy 6 pairs of those jeans……

DO look for some variety.
It can be very tempting to by 5 of the perfect v-neck white t-shirt, or 3 pairs of that dark wash denim, but you aren’t a clone. Unless it’s an item for a uniform, get some variety in your pieces. If that t-shirt comes in multiple colors, buy 2 or 3 different ones. Look for those perfect jeans in multiple washes to work with more outfits and styles. Remember, you aren’t a robot. Just because you like a certain style doesn’t mean you have to wear the same outfit everyday.

DON’T skimp on quality.
Repeat after me “CHEAPER DOESN’T MEAN BETTER. Everyone loves a good bargain. But items that are extremely inexpensive are generally considered “fast fashion” and aren’t always built to last. Just because those black pants at Forever21 are perfect on your booty, their $21 price tag is a big red flag. Getting a cheap item in bulk generally means it will not last as long, and it won’t be long before you are having to repair or replace them. Save your money for multiples of something that will last.

DO ask for help.
If you see the perfect cardigan sweater in 2 colors, don’t be afraid to ask the sales associate if it comes in any other colors. It might be available online, or in other stores. A little bit of research could get you an extra color or two….. and maybe free shipping!!

care tag

DON’T skip the care tag.
Say you find the perfect sheath dress for work. And OMG it comes in 4 colors! And it’s the right length for heels and flats! Before you grab one in every color, check the care tag. Some people take a lot of clothes to the dry cleaners, and others are the wash and wear type. Make sure that they care instructions are something you are comfortable with before you buy 1, or 4. Buying something you can’t care for means it’ll end up in the back of your closet.
