In this series, we’re talking to some of our favorite style bloggers about their style, their shopping habits, their favorite trends, and their awesome blogs! This month, we’re so excited to hear from Kelsey, the crazy stylish voice (and outfit) behind Snappy Casual. She not only has amazing style herself, but she’s passed on the stylish gene to her sweet daughter Rooney. And she’s pregnant with another! Even her husband is a snappy dresser. Snappy Casual family indeed!
When did you first fall in love with fashion? And when did you begin your blog?
When I was in 5th grade, I started to really care about what I wore. I had an oversized red T-shirt with a huge music note on the front that I loved, and I would wear it for days in a row until my parents made me wash it. That was probably the first time I got attached to a piece of clothing.
I started my blog in 2009, when I was in a job that didn’t challenge me creatively. It’s been a great outlet for me!
What are you wearing RIGHT NOW???
Comfy pajamas! Black leggings, a cotton maternity top and a sweatshirt.
What’s your favorite go-to outfit and why?
Black skinny jeans, flats, a graphic T-shirt and a denim jacket. I’m all about ease and comfort, especially since becoming a mom!
What trend(s) are you digging right now?
Leather leggings! My daughter and I both have a pair 🙂
What are your top 3 go-to stores (brick and mortar or online) and how often do you shop?
Madewell is definitely my favorite store. I buy most of my wardrobe from there, because their clothes are made really well and fits my body and style to a T. Then, I fill in the gaps with Old Navy. And, I’ve also recently fallen in love with Lou & Grey. I shop about once a month, when there are sales!
Currently, what is your favorite piece in your closet?
I wear my Level 99 black skinny jeans almost every day! They are high-waisted and have the perfect amount of stretch.
Who is your style icon?
I’ve always looked up to my nana, and she has rockin’ style. For celebrities, I love Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. For bloggers, I get a lot of inspiration from Jen Lula (Jen Loves Kev) and Sydney Poulton (The Daybook)!
What tips would you give our readers for discovering their personal style?
The best thing I ever did for my personal style was to stop shopping for an entire month and instead create a capsule wardrobe of 30 pieces and wear only those things for 30 days (in 30 different outfits). It helped me figure out what I gravitated toward, what I needed in my closet (not what I thought I wanted), and a basic uniform/formula that made me feel good about myself.
Tell us 3 random facts about you!
1. I have a geographic tongue.
2. I can play the trumpet.
3. My favorite colors are white and purple.
