It’s May and that means that wedding season is officially upon us! You’ve RSVP’d, you bought the gift, your ready to hit the dance floor (and the open bar!) but….. what are you going to wear?
Dressing for a wedding is getting more and more confusing. There used to be hard and fast rules; weddings in the afternoon were casual, and weddings after 6pm were formal. Nowadays, there are theme weddings, rustic weddings, cocktail casual weddings, Gatsby weddings, black tie weddings….. how do you know what to wear?
We’ve put together some ideas for wedding guest attire, no matter what the theme or dress code.
Wedding Invite: It’s in Texas, in a barn, at 3:00pm in the afternoon.
Just because it’s a rustic wedding doesn’t mean you have to dress like a cowboy! A chambray shirt is a great way to tie into the rustic theme without looking costume-y. A full midi skirt and some low wedges will be fun, stylish, and comfortable.
Wedding Invite: 5:00pm wedding at a trendy venue with a rooftop bar
and endless tapas.
It may be in the early evening, but it’s not fully formal. The trendy venue gives you license to wear something fun and bold, and the inside venue means you can wear some killer heels without worrying about getting stuck in the grass. Go for bright and sparkly and enjoy toasting the new couple!
Wedding Invite: Super traditional sorority sister! Church wedding and
fancy hotel reception at 7:00pm
Classy is the name of the game for this wedding! This will be a very traditional gathering; think lots of older relatives, a sit-down dinner with REAL dishes, and plenty of good wine. You don’t want to stick out for the wrong reasons, so opt for a classic cocktail dress with timeless accessories. A splash of color with your clutch would be the perfect touch!
Wedding Invite: A casual backyard ceremony followed by brunch at 11:00am
Casual doesn’t have to mean boring! Try a cute and casual romper with some killer accessories to look your laid back best for this wedding. Neutral espadrilles and a bright necklace and clutch are perfect for this easygoing celebration. If you want a little extra sparkle, wear this reversible necklace on the gold side for a bolder statement.
